Her Two Cents is a book developed by Anne Gao, Evelynn Jimenez, and me for a class. The book proposed was a book on the wage gap in America. This is the design for the hypothetical book. The book was a nonfiction, interview and research based book on how the wage gap affects different sections of the community. We proposed that the author would interview women from different socio-economic classes, different parts of the country, different races, and different industries.
As the designer on the project, I looked for an image of a working woman. I found this picture in wikipedia commons and thought the contrast of colors in the picture was a perfect way to draw readers in. I also liked the balance of energy, and that it didn’t mirror any of our competitors books on working women.
Since the topic of the book was serious, and research based, I decided to use a serif font with adequate margins.
I didn’t want the page to look overwhelming so I gave the paragraphs adequate leading as well.
